From Pat
We have just a few more weeks of shows to tape for the current season, our 27th. We’re already making plans for next year. As usual, there will be a few new wrinkles. (I guess that goes for me, too!) The trickiest part of doing a show that runs for decades is changing things enough to keep it fresh while not alienating our regular viewers. There will likely be a new category or two and maybe a few small cosmetic changes. It looks like we’ll be doing the show on the road twice next season, but I’m not at liberty to identify those cities yet.
So far you’ve asked some interesting questions and made a few pointed comments on our “Interact with Pat” page (you can find it under “Media”.) That’s where you can see the questions and the answers, and where you can ask your own question if you’d like.
Joe Moore has been a local television institution in Hawaii for longer than I’ve been on “Wheel of Fortune”. Joe and I served in Vietnam together and have been good friends ever since. Joe is also a talented actor and writer who has been active in the local theater scene in Hawaii. Every few years, Joe and I do a play to raise money for local theater in Hawaii.
Our first was “The Odd Couple” in 2001. (You can access a review below.) Then we did an adaptation of TV’s “The Honeymooners” in 2004. Anyway, this year we’re doing a play called “The Boys in Autumn”, written by Bernard Sabath and performed on Broadway in 1986 by John Cullum and George C. Scott. It’s all about Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer meeting again after having been separated for 50 years. It’s a terrific play and I’m excited about doing it. If your Hawaiian vacation will bring you to Oahu anytime between June 24-27, I hope you’ll drop by the beautiful Hawaii Theater in downtown Honolulu.
